If you're using iOS version 15 or 16:
Please note: you must have an internet connection for Apple’s servers to accept the changes.
If you're using iOS version 17 or 18:
Please note: if the Sign Out option is greyed out, check Screen Time restrictions.
If you're using iOS version 26 or later:
Please note: in iOS 26, Apple merged Find My Device and Erase This Device options into one security section. Once off, the device is no longer linked to your Apple Account and can be erased or reactivated freely.
Go to Settings < Screen Time < Content & Privacy Restrictions < Account Changes < Allow. This lets you make changes to your Apple ID and iCloud settings.
If your iPhone is managed by your company (through MDM), only the system administrator can change or remove Apple ID settings. You'll need to contact your IT admin for help.
If the iPhone is part of Family Sharing, only the family organiser can approve or allow Apple ID changes. You'll need to ask the family organiser to adjust the settings for you.
A temporary sync issue or weak connection could stop changes from saving. Try reconnecting to Wi-Fi, waiting a few minutes and reopening Settings before trying again.
If you can’t sign out because you’ve forgotten your password, go to iforgot.apple.com to reset it. If you still can’t access your account, contact Apple Support and provide proof of purchase for your device.
