How to remove your iCloud Account on your iPhone

If you’re selling an iPhone to us, you’ll need to remove your iCloud account before sending it. If you don’t, your payment may be delayed.

Removing your iCloud account is quick and easy, and can be completed using your device or via the iCloud website. Just select your device to find out how to remove your iCloud account!

Removing your iCloud account and Find My using your device

If you're using iOS version 15 or 16:

  1. Go to Settings < [your name] < Find My < Find My iPhone
  2. Toggle Find My iPhone off
  3. Enter your Apple ID password to confirm
  4. Go back to Settings < [your name]
  5. Scroll down and tap Sign Out

Please note: you must have an internet connection for Apple’s servers to accept the changes.

If you're using iOS version 17 or 18:

  1. Go to Settings < [your name] < Find My Device
  2. Toggle Find My Device off
  3. Authenticate with Apple ID password or Face ID + passcode
  4. Go back to Settings < [your name]
  5. Scroll down and tap Sign Out

Please note: if the Sign Out option is greyed out, check Screen Time restrictions.

If you're using iOS version 26 or later:

  1. Go to Settings < [your name] < Find My Device
  2. Tap Find My Device again and toggle it off
  3. Enter your Apple Account password
  4. Confirm the prompt to disable Find My and Activation Lock

Please note: in iOS 26, Apple merged Find My Device and Erase This Device options into one security section. Once off, the device is no longer linked to your Apple Account and can be erased or reactivated freely.

Removing your iCloud account remotely using your PC or laptop

  1. Switch off your iPhone
  2. Log into the iCloud website from a PC or laptop using your Apple ID
  3. Click Find My
  4. Select the All Devices drop-down menu and click on your device
  5. Click Remove Account
  6. Click Remove on the confirmation message

Troubleshooting

Go to Settings < Screen Time < Content & Privacy Restrictions < Account Changes < Allow. This lets you make changes to your Apple ID and iCloud settings.

If your iPhone is managed by your company (through MDM), only the system administrator can change or remove Apple ID settings. You'll need to contact your IT admin for help.

If the iPhone is part of Family Sharing, only the family organiser can approve or allow Apple ID changes. You'll need to ask the family organiser to adjust the settings for you.

A temporary sync issue or weak connection could stop changes from saving. Try reconnecting to Wi-Fi, waiting a few minutes and reopening Settings before trying again.

If you can’t sign out because you’ve forgotten your password, go to iforgot.apple.com to reset it. If you still can’t access your account, contact Apple Support and provide proof of purchase for your device.
